Completó sus estudios de medicina veterinaria en la Facultad de Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia de la UNAM en México, donde desarrolló un gran interés por el estudio de bienestar animal en diversas especies de producción animal.  Su interés la llevó a colaborar con diferentes investigadores en el tema de bienestar animal en el transporte de cerdos y durante procesos infecciosos como Diarrea epidémica porcina. 
En el 2015,  inició un nuevo programa de posgrado (Doctorate in Veterinary Science) bajo la supervisión de Dr. Patricia Turner en la Universidad de Guelph enfocado al estudio de bienestar animal en medicina veterinaria. En este programa desarrollo un interés por la medicina de animales de laboratorio y sus diversas herramientas de diagnóstico como la histopatología. Elein Hernandez, bajo la supervisión de su asesora, han brindado un servicio de diagnóstico histopatológico para diferentes bioterios en Canadá durante los últimos dos años con lo cual han brindado apoyo a investigadores y profesionistas en el área de animales de laboratorio.
